Maya Radhika Lakhenpaul Summer Party 2019
What you’re having a summer party??? Of course, I am – so this blog post provides a full description of how I planned my summer party. Being a girl that just loves the sun and hosting events I knew I had to do this.
Right at the bottom of this post is my video that captures the day gorgeously.
My family and friends mean that absolute world to me and I know I am extremely blessed to have the people that I do in my life. So, in this article I will talk about the bohemian themed party – the bouncy castle, personalised semi-naked cake, personalised balloon, the food and of course my hair style/outfit.
Enjoy beauties xxx
I am a very chilled out girl and as much as I love London and I am a big city girl I love to take some time out. Therefore, the style of party I was going for was boho otherwise known as bohemian. The party was a mixture of being outdoors and inside of the house. The cake symbolised boho with the fresh flowers. Super gorgeous!
I had the idea of moving the party to the floor with big fluffy pillows and a sheet I put near the bouncy castle in the garden. This almost felt like a picnic vibe.
I am so thankful the weather was amazing. When it became chilly, we moved into the house. I ordered party food from Marks and Spencer as this was easy and you can’t go wrong with them.
I displayed some of the food outside on a table I decorated in the garden and I also had food inside the house on the table. I ordered a selection of vegetarian and meat options from Marks and Spencer.
Classic Sandwich Selection
Classic Mini Roll Platter
Vegetarian Sandwich & Wrap Selection
Antipasti Mini Canapé Selection
Vegan Sandwich & Wrap
Meat Sandwich Selection
Afternoon Tea Sandwich Fingers
Mini Quiche Bites
Roast Chicken Drumsticks
Handcrafted Mature Cheddar & Caramelised Onion Pastry
Mini Coquilles St Jacques
As well as all of the food I ordered from Marks and Spencer, I cooked some Indian snacks like samosas. I always believe you can’t have enough food at a party and most of my friends love an Indian. I wanted to have this rather than a full-on meal because it is more social and chilled out. I wanted my party to be very mingling and a chilled out vibe.
We also had plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I love Pimms as it is such a summer drink and we made it from scratch.
We made this a a jug with:
- Fresh mint leaves
- Chopped strawberries
- Sliced orange
- Chopped cucumber
- Plenty of ice
To make the garden look more bohemian I used pink bunting. Obviously, the pink was to match the cake. Back in 1953, bunting was the chosen decoration by the Great British public in honour of The Queen’s coronation, and then raised its beautiful head again for the Golden & Diamond Jubilee celebrations more recently. Bunting gives a rustic feel and this went well with the table outside.
I wanted my summer party to be simple and cute. That is why it was kept relatively simple. I had a bouncy castle in the garden, table outdoors and indoors where we could eat and pink bunting for the outdoor decoration.
However, I also wanted an element of being bold and that is why the cake worked really well. The playlist was a mixture of different things and music is a MUST. I also ensured the drinks where cool and did not get warm because of the sun.
I curated a long playlist for my party which helped to set the mood for the day. Adding enough songs to play over the duration of the day was important so we didn’t listen to the same tracks. Music is a massive passion of mine so I loved doing this.
I wanted my summer party to be as creative as possible. I love planning things and seeing my vision come to life and I am so happy to have created a bohemian style day summer party.
It was so nice to see some of the people I love the most in the world all together. I had the doors open in the garden so we had a mixture of being in the garden and indoors.
So there where kids at the party but I think us adults definitely loved the bouncy castle more. Some of my friends have children and I wanted them to be there plus I adore their energy.
Lucky for us we had a gorgeous warm day and we loved being on the bouncy castle just as much as the kids did. I have to say this is an incredible workout.
I choose to have a bouncy castle in my garden because it was the centre piece for everything else and I was sure everyone would be eager to jump on and release some of that pent-up energy that us adults and kids have.
There was zero work for me to actually do. I used a company called Bouncy Castle Fun Club and they set up the bouncy castle in the morning and packed it away in the evening……How good is that? This meant I could concentrate on other aspects like just having fun and enjoying the day I planned so much.
For my friends that have kids – the bouncy castle kept them entertained which meant us adults could talk and also have fun so it was a double win.
99% of kids love, love, love a bouncy castle.
The bouncy castle that I picked was very bright with the colouring and simplistic. I even thought about the green grass and I thought the colours would look amazing against that. The different colours of the bouncy castle actually matched my personalised balloon.
The bouncy castle looked beautiful in my back garden and I am so thankful the weather was amazing! I put out a sheet where all my friends could talk, chill, eat and then go onto the bouncy castle and jump around.
It was such a treat to see the kids eyes light up when they saw the castle. I am a big kid at heart, so I loved it so much. Planning a party with a bohemian theme means getting in touch with nature. Using floral and natural materials are a must! Therefore, a bouncy castle helped to celebrate the outdoors.
So it is not my birthday, not Christmas but I wanted to celebrate how amazing the last six months have been and I am a huge summer lover. To celebrate this you cannot go wrong with a cake and that is why I had a cake – to mark the start of an incredible summer ahead.
My cake was made by Bridgette from Cutaslice.
She is such an amazing baker and super creative. I usually give her a drawing of what I want and she makes all of my ideas come to life. So, if you are London based and looking for someone who will go that extra mile – Bridgette is the person to go too.
I decided I wanted to have a semi-naked cake. Semi-naked cake can also be called barely-frosted, half-dressed or scantily clad, this twist on the naked cake trend is one of my favourites! The beauty of this type of cake allows the cake layers to show through while still keeping the sides nice and straight.
Not as casual as the naked cake, it still has a rustic feel but dressed up with flowers, fruit or macarons, is perfect for just about any style of party. The theme I was going for was very festival like and I wanted something different. That is why after doing plenty of research I knew a semi naked cake was a must for my Summer Party.
So, you all know by now how much I love pink and how much it is my favourite colour. This cake is the perfect combo of rustic and effortlessly chic minimal icing. The cake was topped with fresh flowers and it look so gorgeous. The cake was so stunning I really didn’t want to cut it.
Cakes mark a celebration and it was so nice to cut a cake with my grandparents there and all of my friends.
Of course, some of my friends could not make it which was a shame and my parents where on holiday. However, the show still went ahead, and it was super special. My grandparents are super adorable, and I am so thankful I have them and they are healthy even in old age. My grandma and me are so close, every-time I’m with her she squeezes me and gives me lots of cuddles and kisses.
I had a gorgeous cake topper which was in gold and that definitely added the special touch to my stunning cake. The cake topper sat on top of my cake and it was personal to me with my name on. You cannot go wrong with gold, right? The gold really complemented the pink on the flowers and the white. I believe less is more and this proved that it definitely is the case.
The cake had a vanilla filling which was delicious. It was also not that “sickly feeling” you have after eating so much sugar. You didn’t feel so bloated after which was amazing. The texture was moist and soft.
Aside from me loving pink – Pink flowers are used as a symbol of love and awareness. They are also used as an expression of thanks and are enjoyed for their aesthetic beauty. This party was also me celebrating the most incredible friends a girl could ever have so the colour pink was definitely suitable.
Pink is also a very popular summer colour. When I think of the summer I think pink and yellow for sure. I am a huge girly girl and pink is now often used as a colour for girls. Think about pink clothes, toys, and other baby girl material. Did you know? Back in the days, until the forties of the 20th century, the colours were used exactly reversed! Pink for boys and blue, which was considered as delicate and feminine, for girls haha I cannot imagine that.
Rustic style “naked cakes” are a huge hit this summer it’s the “Half-Dressed Cake” that’s taking centre stage – the crumb coated version of the “naked cake”.
Just a thin scraping of buttercream or frosting around the sides of the cake is all it takes to create this slightly more dressed up version of the earlier naked cake trend. I love having cakes custom made and that is exactly what this cake is. I envisioned it to be exactly like this and this vision has most certainly come to life.
Cake can be the most visual way of celebrating the love we have for our friends and families. The sharing of cake lies at the heart of special occasions like birthdays, weddings, christenings and anniversaries. In my case – my summer party.
The cake has to be yummy; it has to look great and it has to be eaten! This cake is delicious and beautiful, so I was 100% onto a winner.
I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better cake at all. All of my family and friends loved this, and I felt really bad about cutting it as it was definitely like a piece of art work. However, the taste was just amazing. So it was a 10/10.
To add the personal touch to my summer party I had a personalised balloon from Bubblegum balloons, and I thoroughly recommend this company. For my party I was gifted the “Personalised Birthday Rainbow Circle Confetti Bubble Balloon”. A mixture of lots of different colours is a gorgeous way to welcome in the summer so I really couldn’t go wrong with this.
Bubblegum Balloons have a large range of balloons available which can be personalised – perfect for any celebration, life event or occasion! I am a girl that loves personalisation so a name of a balloon was a must. This balloon was delivered to me via post and arrived on the day of my party. The actual balloon stayed inflated a full 3 weeks after my party. The quality is superb, and the balloon definitely stood out.
This Party’s Blowin’ Up – I have also wondered why do we celebrate occasions with balloons.
After doing research I found out why. They are cheap and colourful (however my balloon I was gifted from Bubblegum Balloons maybe more on the expensive side) and people like watching things fly away.
Balloons in their various forms were invented for use in military communications, scientific experiments, and transportation, but it wasn’t long before people began to have fun with them. The first rubber balloons were made by Michael Faraday in 1824, for use in the laboratory.
Bubblegum Balloons have everything you could need to turn any occasion into a celebration. If you thought balloons were just for children’s parties, think again – there is no age limit on loving balloons at all.
Bubblegum Balloons have taken the humble balloon and given it a new lease of life, transforming it into the ultimate feel good accessory, whatever the occasion.
Big, bold and beautiful, the attention-grabbing balloons and decorations are perfect for any celebration. This company is created by three women looking to bring to the market fun, unique and easily accessible gifts and party decorations, Bubblegum Balloons products are all created at Bubblegum HQ’s confetti filled studios!
I want to say thank you for adding a very personal touch to my summer party.
A company called Blow Ltd styled my hair and I definitely wanted it to be a festival vibe. The hair stylist put a plait in my hair and glitter which I loved. This is a must must must for a festival look. I also had beach waves and had a floral headpiece which added to the finish look.
I wanted to break the mould and forget about pristine perfection – effortless styling is my staple this festival season. I kept my look relaxed with loose beach waves that epitomise the coveted carefree festival style. It’s all about hair you can shake out and muss up to create a bohemian style affect.
I put glitter onto my face and my makeup was super simple with the focus on the glitter on my cheeks. I wanted my look to be authentic and not so over the top so less was more when it came to the makeup.
I am a girl that loves glitter and I do not need an excuse to wear this. Whether this is through my clothing, makeup or hair I love it all. It is such a festival thing to do – so it only felt right that I did.
The vibe that I wanted when it came to my styling was definitely “festival vibe”. So, if you are looking for the same thing my tips would be maintain your own sense of style (I love glitter hence I am incorporating this in my look). The second tip is pick one statement piece. For me this was the floral headpiece I wore on my head. My final tip would be just to keep it real – wear something that makes you feel authentic.
The dress code was very chilled out. I knew I was going to be on the bouncy castle a lot so it was a no brainer to wear shorts. Dressing down sometimes is so nice because I love that chilled out home party vibe.
All of my friends wore simple summer clothes and some of them even had bikinis on so when the sun was out we tanned hehehehe …. loved this.
I loved my party had my grandparents there and some of my closest friends in the world. It was so cute to see my grandmother and my friends Mum together. My friend just recently had a beautiful baby girl who is the most gorgeous thing and I couldn’t get enough of the cuddles.
I honestly had the best time and this was the best way I could ever have welcomed Summer 2019. If you are planning on hosting a summer party I really hope my ideas can help you.
