How I planned my best friends 30th Birthday
Happy Birthday Bestie
It is my best friends 30th birthday this month and I wanted to give her a special experience rather than just a gift. I did however get a personalised card made for her for 30 reasons I love her and all the memories we have made together.
I wanted to create a memory we could cherish for years ahead so I decided I would take her for drinks up at London in the Sky and dinner at Sketch. Anna is my best friend in the whole wide world. That girl has always been a constant support to me, we talk every-day and our families know each other so well. To have a best friend like that – I know I am such a lucky girl. We both grew up in London but come from different backgrounds. Anna is half Albanian and half Greek, my heritage is Indian. We have different personalities; I use to be so weak, but Anna is one of the strongest women I know. I think she gets that from her mum who is super strong, also an amazing woman. Anna has helped me insane amounts and is so loyal. It’s fair to say she can read me like a book. She deserves the best in life, and we have created countless memories over the last ten years, travelled to so many countries together, been on the phone for hours and hours and explored London. I’ve never had a friend this loyal!
London in the Sky
So enough of that as I have a blogging platform in UK, I want to share how I planned my best friends 30th birthday. Anna loves fashion, travelling and doing things. So, I researched what is the best thing to do in London at the moment and London in the Sky completely stood out for me. Having drinks up in the air with my best friend – nothing beats that. This was a proper date night with my best friend.
London in The Sky, the city’s TOTALLY open-air restaurant, overlooks the London skyline. The table is suspended 100ft over The O2 Arena, so there are great views over the river, the City and Canary Wharf. This restaurant was perfect for a side of adrenaline as you are up in the air, not to mention some epic views of London.
The atmosphere was electric, the adrenaline from such an experience heightening all the senses, making the drinks taste better, the sights look better and the I also loved the music in the air.
We had two gins – If I have a drink, I do love a gin (you can’t go wrong with that). London in the sky works with a wide range of fantastic chefs, mixologists and caterers. The G & T flight is the PERFECT way to enjoy summer in London, soaking up unforgettable views with a classic gin and tonic in your hand. The G&Ts are made with premium Sipsmith gins – or you can mix things up with a refreshing Cocchi Rosa fizz or spritz which are both created in the sky.
After having drinks in the Sky, we headed over to Sketch, London. This place is totally me and Anna. We had dinner at the gorgeous Gallery. This part is so adorable – it is all me, so pink. We had a gorgeous meal and dessert. I obviously wasn’t calorie counting this evening.
Sketch is housed in an 18th-century townhouse on Mayfair’s Conduit Street, Sketch is a London dining emporium like no other, conceived by the Momo restaurateur Mourad Mazouz and made up of a number of uniquely decorated spaces.
The Gallery is part of a long-term programme of artist-designed dining-rooms; for this incarnation, David Shrigley has created a smart and sophisticated place to sample the delicious and inventive brasserie food on offer from the French master chef Pierre Gagnaire. I am so glad we had dinner in the gallery. I read a lot of blogs before planning my best friends present and a lot of the best blogger in Europe said this was most certainly a place to come.
The food was glorious and presented very well. I love food styling and I would give the presentation of food top marks for sure.
Ask the helpful waiters – who are dressed smartly in uniforms by the late Richard Nicoll – to give you their recommendations, because Gagnaire’s extensive menu of modern European creations is filled with so many tempting dishes that it was hard to decide.
To start, choose from glorious combinations such as sliced avocado and pink grapefruit; leeks and razor clams; and black rice, basmati rice, lobster bisque, red pepper and wasabi. I follow a plant-based diet as you know and there are plenty of options for vegans.
I told the restaurant beforehand it was my best friends’ birthday and they put “Happy Birthday Anna” on a dessert plate with a candle which was so cute.
So, you have probably seen on Instagram the toilets at Sketch. Well – these are most certainly the best toilets in town, and we had to get some photos. The toilets are egg shaped with neon lights.
After dinner, we headed to the bar in Sketch and literally had the best time ever.
So, you all know by now how much I love fashion, dressing up and doing my hair. I opted for a gorgeous white bodycon dress from Vesper which I purchased via ASOS. and I love how less is more. For a personal touch I added a pearl necklace and big earrings. My bag was a simple gold clutch and I wore white heals.
I am a massive fan of BIG hair, so I styled my hair with lots of volume and bounce.
So, my present to my best friend was a personalised card a lifelong memory.
Thank you, Anna, for being the best friend to me ever, we are like sisters and I love you so very much. You deserve the world and welcome to the 30s. I hope you get everything you want because you have a heart of complete gold and your one of the most important people in my life. I love you Hun – besties forever xxx
